“Pookkad Yuvajana Kalalayam” was formed on 30th August 1974 at Chemanchery of Kozhikkode District in Kerala State and rechristened “Pookkad Kalalayam”. Kalalayam started with a handful of students has now blossomed to a large institution with thousands of students at Main centre at Pookkad and another centre at Ulliyeri. In addition to training in various art forms, Kalalayam extended its activities widely to include all section of the society by presenting dramas, forming Bala Bhavan, Ladies Forum, Youth Club, Childrens Theatre, Film Society, and Health Club. Thus began the great saga of Pookkad Kalalayam.
