Methil Devika is a practitioner of Indian Classical dance. She has received national accolades like the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for Mohiniyattam from the Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi (2007), and the Devadasi National Award from Orissa (2010). An ‘A’ graded artiste for Doordarshan, Devika is empanelled with ICCR, Delhi as well as SPIC-MACAY disseminating art through lec-dems to the youth across India. Methil Devika’s choreographies as well as paper-presentations in various universities abroad have been noted for the freshness she has lent to Mohiniyattam, weaving in thought-provoking themes but rooted in ancient knowledge systems. Her dance space Sripada Natya kalari won the state architecture award. Devika was awarded a doctorate in Mohiniyattam from the Bharatidasan University. She has a first rank for MBA from Madras University(1998) and is a gold medal holder for MA(Kuchipudi) from Rabindra Bharati University(2000). She has qualified the UGC/NET for performing arts (2000) and was recipient of fellowship from Ministry of Culture. Some of her noted solo-productions are the Conversation between Gopika and Krishna, Cilapathikaram, The Twilight of Siddhartha and Raktabeejasuravadhom. Her thesis was based on the Semiotic of ritual performance.
