The fifth edition of the kochi muzris biennale was a benediction for art lovers and practitioners all over the map, another magic of Bose Krishnamachari and team. Curation is authentically matured articulation! Curator Art genius Shubigi Rao has broken the traditional walls of art for this 5 th edition of Kochi Muzris Biennale. Her vistas are deep and broad, the horizons she glimpsed are indeed rare. Herself an artist and writer, viewed as a new age archetype possessing armors of resistance flitting blades of protest, satire, and intelligence. Shubigi proved her metal, did a sweet job as curator. Hyper-Loud against censorship, repression, and book destruction; a total pattern change regarding content deserves appreciation. Quality, heterogeneity, and marvel of any extensive, far-reaching art exhibitions confide incuration, her book ‘Pulp: A short biography of the banished book’ is on the blue light of art radar, became a symbol of resistance, unfolding herself as an art celebrity.
So, the curatorial statement goes like this – “In our veins flow ink and fire….” Deft subtle choice regarding artists options radiates the walls. The Biennale is stamping colorful and monochrome milestones sculptured in aesthetic nebulas of all medium. This is a celebration a neo-festival manifesting every two years, a congregation of contrast, variance, and singularity. Flickering loudness, symphony, whisperings, explosions, murmurings, and
silence in expositions. From a bird’s eye view, one could absorb conscientiously tuned rhythm of coherent facticity. Pampered sarcasm for disparity in contemporary habitat resonates unobscured. The aesthetic arcaneness of art was considerably conserved. Postmodernism was opulence in all venue’s prospectus, usually the Indian here and now evades abundant postmodern philosophical conjunctions due to the incomprehension or total ignorance of the concept and perhaps hangovers of modernism.
Shubigi showered copious abstractions adequately in premeditated proportions for every mosaic and specimen genres. Sometimes one can move the bricks to sneak peek what is coming after the postmodern era to be manifested in unconscious blank linear tabula Rasa. The medium perspective consciousness expanded and evolved amply surrendering further to individual or collective selection and active experimentation to further contingencies. Textile, film, wood, organic substances, rocks, pebbles, beads with incandescence divulge forms. Diversity and themes vary from venue to venue spreading all over Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and Ernakulam by nearly 90 artists globally. If Shubigi played thoughts the
omnipresent coordinating mind was Bose krishnamachari himself co-inventor, experimenter, and nurturer of Kochi Muzris Biennale.
The existence of Kochi Biennale counterbalance Bose. Bose has become an eminent presence in international contemporary art reaching the altars as ‘Art Guru.’ Without mentioning ‘Bose’ Kochi Biennale is immensely incomplete. Current edition was delayed twice due to pandemic, other than creative expression, conversation, symposiums, and workshops it is a carnival of colors, thoughts, rebellion, love, and humanity. Plethora of assiduous intelligence and diligence is visible in all layers of perception with multiple interpretations according to the wish and peripheries of one’s psyche. The uniqueness of art is that it displays unbiased free modulation and reinterpretation of worlds revealed. In this free space there is chance to learn, unlearn and upgrade. Like the world art also changes, the evolution and transformation of human mind and its understanding and the outer society of man is deeply interconnected to art consciousness. There is commemoration of
a psychedelic universe visible with keen avid astral eyes of reason and irrationality at its pinnacles! Here some realms resemble distorted or modified mirroring of acid induced trippy fractals, mandalas, and quantum kaleidoscopic nonlinear infinity with unheard revelations of singularity, the oneness of chaos and order or disputation!!! Questioning thin invisible string like borderlines of dream and wakefulness, the nothingness, unconscious vacuum witnessing and masquerading as substratum.
The fifth edition of Kochi Muzris Biennale ended on 10 th of this April leaving behind huge colorful footprints and unshakable legacy for Kerala, India, and the world, remembering the team Kochi Biennale once again!
